Let’s start with an overview of the product.
Getresponse is an e-mail marketing tool that allows you to: build a mailing list and capture data onto it, create newsletters that you can send to subscribers on your mailing list, automate your emails to your subscribers via the use of autoresponders.
View and analyze statistics about your e-mail marketing campaigns: open rates, click-throughs, forwards, etc.
Recently, however, the features of Getresponse have evolved to become an all-in-one marketing solution. In addition to e-mail marketing, it now also offers webinar hosting, landing pages, automated sales funnels, and some customer relationship management (CRM) features.
Getresponse has been in existence since 1998; and according to the company, 350,000 people and businesses make use of the platform for their email marketing.
There are four different Getresponse plans:
When you add new subscribers to your list, the costs increase. At the top of the scale, you can pay $ 450, $ 499, or $ 580 a month to host a list of 100,000 subscribers on the “Basic,” “Plus,” and “Professional” plans.
For the “Business” plan, the exact price depends on the requirements and the size of the list. If you are interested in the “Business” plan, contact Getresponse to arrange a demo, describe your needs, and discuss the price.
You will be provided with a significant discount if you pay upfront for one or two years of service (18% and 30%, respectively).
As far as features are concerned, GetResponse offers so many useful features that you’ll be confused about choice. Of course, some of the features are only accessible with specific packages.
Below are the key features of this autoresponder program, regardless of the package chosen.
GetResponse provides autoresponder 2.0, which automatically sends messages based on certain factors. For instance, you can set up the autoresponder to send newsletters on a specific date or send individual promotional messages to subscribers on their birthday.
GetResponse provides detailed guides on the use of autoresponder 2.0, which will help increase subscriber engagement.
The service provides two tools for creating campaigns: and HTML tool and an Email Creator tool with templates. The latter is useful for users who are comfortable providing their code. Using the Email Creator Tool, you can start from scratch or use one of the hundreds of templates offered.
When you view your newsletter, you can see what it looks like on a desktop computer, as well as browsers, email programs, and mobile devices. After this is done, you will get a spam score, which is useful because you can accidentally use terms that email programs report as suspicious. The company mandates all users to comply with the CAN-SPAM Act 2003 and similar international legislation.
You can send the newsletter immediately, schedule it for later, or use Time Travel to deliver it to recipients based on local time. For example, you can ask subscribers to receive the newsletter at 9:00 am local time, regardless of the time zone. GetResponse also has a Perfect Time feature that provides the best time of the day to send a newsletter to your subscribers and automatically broadcasts it at that time.
You can also send newsletters and autoresponder messages based on certain factors, such as a subscriber’s date of birth, confirmation of a profile change, or other specific information you have collected. Start by selecting between time-based, clicked, opened, subscribed, or goal achieved. After choosing the type, you define the parameters. For example, once a user accepts your newsletter, you can send a welcome message immediately or a follow-up email within a specified time. You can also pick which days of the week the autoresponder message will be active.
Once satisfied with your campaign, you can send it to all subscribers, add it manually, or make use of saved searches. However, we consulted the Help section to know the latter. It turns out there is an Action button at the bottom left of the results screen, and one of the choices there is Save Search. Other options include copying or moving to a campaign, adding a custom field, export, and tag. You can now tag subscribers or use this information to direct contacts when sending a campaign. You can do this by using a saved search, provided the tag is assigned, and then send a newsletter for that search.
Then choose to use the perfect timing feature or schedule or send it immediately. Once you have submitted it, the countdown will decrease by 60 seconds. You can cancel submitting until it reaches zero.
GetResponse is not limited to providing autoresponder services. It also offers the landing page builder as an additional tool if you need this feature. However, this has an additional cost.
GetResponse is flexible with the landing page builder because you can choose to host your page for free on a GetResponse subdomain or another server of your choice. The landing page builder is also very intuitive. It allows users to edit page elements with easy-to-use drag-and-drop tools.
Online advertising campaigns using landing pages usually generate a lot more leads if, instead of just directing users to a (disorganized!) site, they direct users to attractive “squeeze pages” that contain well-designed data capture forms and precise information.
Getresponse provides something very useful in this regard than many of its competitors do not offer a landing page builder (and mobile-friendly one). You can not only use it to create squeeze pages, but you can also test the conversion rate of these pages in real-time and implement the best performance.
Products such as Campaign Monitor and Aweber require the use of a third-party landing page builder, such as Unbounce or Instapage, for this type of functionality. MailChimp has recently introduced some landing page features, but they are not as sophisticated in Getresponse yet.
Another feature of Getresponse that sets it apart is its split testing feature.
You can make use of GetResponse to run a series of tests that will let you send the most effective messages to contacts. This can be done via A / B testing that allows you to try different newsletters, subject line variants, email content, time of sending, etc.
It is more significant than that provided by many competitors because it allows you to split test up to five different messages (using the subject header, field, content, and submission time as variables).
So, if the split testing is essential to you, Getresponse deserves special attention.
The only limitation I can say about split testing in Getresponse is that it’s a bit difficult to find this feature – you need to look for a small and easily overlooked “distribution settings” link when creating a newsletter.
The RSS to Email functionality automatically sends messages to the public of your blog each time you post a new article. This feature not only increases readership but can also increase engagement and conversions when used correctly.
Here are some of the other features of GetResponse.
GetResponse offers a marketing automation package that is near the top of the class. Automation workflows are based on three features: Actions, Conditions, and Filters. You begin by dragging a condition on the Workflow page. This includes things like “Receive an email” or “Join a list.” Then, drag an action to perform in response to your condition. Activities include the message to send the contact to, the list to add the contact to, and other possibilities. In this workflow environment, you can draw lines between actions and conditions to bring recipients between different stages of the workflow, depending on how quickly they reach their predefined workflow goals.
GetResponse has several workflow features that put interactive and responsive email marketing at your fingertips. For example, you can establish workflow contacts for workflows. You can drag tags into your workflow to tag contacts who have left or navigate through different stages of a workflow. This allows you to move contact files that have been the subject of an incentive campaign to the most popular contact lists, or to mark people as insensitive if they have not gone as far as you want in the promotion campaign. You decide how to determine if someone is not responding, because GetResponse allows you to set conditions that will enable you to wait a certain amount of time to designate someone as not answering.
GetResponse does not limit the number of conditions and actions you can add. However, you are only permitted to add six filters to each state, which is a bit limiting compared to what you will find on HubSpot or Pardot. Unfortunately, you can not create messages in a workflow. You must, therefore, register e-mails in advance, then enter the workflow and add the words to the channel. It takes a lot of time and is annoying. We hope GetResponse will update it in its next major redesign.
GetResponse does not offer a workflow template, which is another problem, especially for automation novices and marketers who do not want to waste time creating essential nurturing campaigns and birthday-related customer win-backs. GetResponse does not offer A / B testing, social media automation, or search marketing-related research. The company has not created apps for Android and iOS. Therefore, all your work must be done on a Desktop Operating System (DOS).
Like landing page and email creators, the GetResponse Form builder is a simple WYSIWYG interface (what you see is what you get) with drag and drop elements. It’s an excellent tool for creating Facebook and other websites’ sign up forms.
The autoresponder automatically sends acceptance messages whenever new contacts subscribe to your mailing list.
A good email marketing platform should have a reliable list of management features. The GetResponse team fully understands this need, and that’s why they’ve created their feature-rich program to help marketers manage their subscriber list.
For example, you can use advanced targeting to split contacts into separate or overlapping subgroups, and then create targeted e-mail marketing campaigns designed for relevant engagement and conversion. Also, GetResponse lets you import contacts from third-party applications or send surveys to members of your mailing list.
The contacts section permits you to add custom fields to your contacts list and search. You can even blacklist the contacts’ email addresses that do not want to receive email campaigns or follow-ups.
GetResponse Email Creator is made up of over 500 models. You can use the publisher to create a highly visual email that is compatible with desktops and mobiles.
You also can edit the HTML code to design forms to customize further.
Although photo editing features are not as advanced, they still allow you to try a drag-and-drop toolbar, which may include images and buttons in your email. GetResponse Email Creator also offers the ability to save items as snippets for later use. Users who know HTML can also code their templates.
The Inbox Preview feature is an excellent addition for those who pay close attention to detail. It lets you see how email messages will appear on different mobile devices and desktops, as well as in various email client programs.
Before sending the message, you can also perform a “spam check” scan. This generates a spam score after detecting items that may mark your words as spam.
Marketing automation is one of GetResponse’s most important offerings. This allows you to create if-then rules for a variety of e-mail communications easily. Instead of all customers receiving the same message, regardless of their behavior, they will receive messages (that you have created in advance) that respond to their practice.
For example, a recipient who has not opened an email for two weeks may receive a different tracking message than the one who sent it.

One of the things I’d love to see added to Getresponse is the support for Web fonts – in its current version, only the “usual web fonts” can be used (Arial, Times New Roman, Georgia, Trebuchet, etc.) in electronic newsletters created with Getresponse.
E-mails appear more coherently in e-mail programs, but e-newsletters may seem a little more annoying than they might be.
It would be nice, given the growing support of major web font mail clients, to see Getresponse allow users to embed them in their HTML emails. Some competing products now will enable the use of a limited number of web sources. It would be nice seeing this feature soon added to Getresponse.
(Campaign Monitor and MailChimp are two examples of products that make it easy to use Web fonts, but the fonts provided with Mailchimp are very annoying).
With GetResponse reporting tools, you can evaluate the success or failure of your email campaign. The Email Analytics page generates necessary reports about your email campaign and displays all your statistics on one page.
For example, tracking tools record the number of people opening their email, unsubscribing, complaining, or clicking links. You can even generate line and bar charts that depict vital metrics such as bounce rates and clicks.
GetResponse offers its tracking code that you can embed in particular web pages to track conversions, downloads, or other events. The tracking tool also supports the integration of Google Analytics.
You can view the members of your mailing list who have taken a particular action, the growth reports from the list of subscribers comparing previous campaigns, the activity of desktops versus the free activity, and many other autoresponder statistics.

As long as you like to use one of the necessary packages, paid Getresponse monthly plans are usually cheaper than those offered by many of their major competitors, especially if you have a relatively large number of email addresses in your database.
For instance, if you have a mailing list comprising between 9,000 and 10,000 records to which you want to send an unlimited number of emails per month, you’ll find that hosting in the Getresponse “basic” package costs $ 65 per month.
The only public service I can get much less costly is Mad Mimi, who charges $ 42 a month to host 10,000 email addresses. Nevertheless, the feature provided by this solution is not as complete as that offered by the other platforms mentioned above.
It should also be noted that Mailchimp offers narrower price ranges, which means that depending on the size of your list, it can sometimes be a slightly cheaper option than Getresponse. But it must also be said that the functionality of Mailchimp on the entry plan is fundamental – you do not even have the essential autoresponder feature.
In the end, Getresponse’s pricing is also very competitive: you can host a database of up to 1,000 email addresses at $ 15 per month with Getresponse, compared to $ 29 per month with Aweber; and $ 29 per month on Campaign Monitor.
Mailchimp’s monthly cost for hosting 500 to 1,000 subscribers is $ 19.99; and Mad Mimi offers a slightly cheaper, but less functional, offer of $ 12 per month to accommodate up to 1,000 subscribers.
So, the result is that Getresponse is very competitive in the price department.
GetResponse customer service is generally excellent. Although there are few negative reviews on the web, the vast majority of customers place a high value on the company’s support services.
